The Moncton Wildcats won the battle of QMJHL teams in the final game of the round robin, eliminating the Rimouski Océanic from a playoff tournament for the second time this season. It was the first of three consecutive wins the Wildcats will need if they want to hoist the Memorial Cup on Sunday.
Next up for Moncton are the London Knights, who finished second in the standings. The two teams met on the second day of the tournament, when London got a goal from Sam O’Reilly in overtime to claim two important points.
The prize from the rematch is a date with the Medicine Hat Tigers in Sunday’s final. Moncton will hope it can get the win it came so close to grabbing early in the event, while the Knights are hoping to get back to the final for the second straight year.
