Veteran actor and Makkal Needhi Maiam (MNM) founder Kamal Haasan, on Friday (Could 30, 2025) stated that he gained’t apologise for his comment on the Kannada language that has sparked an issue in Karnataka.

The actor, in the course of the audio launch of Mani Ratnam-directorial Thug Life in Chennai, had stated that “Tamil gave birth to Kannada.” The comment drew criticism from the individuals of Karnataka, with pro-Kannada outfits staging protests towards him for “hurting the sentiment of Kannadigas.” The Karnataka Movie Chamber of Commerce (KFCC) has threatened to ban the discharge of the multilingual filmin Karnataka if there is no such thing as a apology from Mr. Haasan. The film is about to hit the screens on June 5.

After calling on Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.Okay. Stalin on the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) occasion headquarters ‘Anna Arivalayam’ in Chennai on Friday, he addressed journalists. When requested about his refusal to apologise for his remark, he stated, “This is a democratic country. I believe in justice and law. I believe that love will triumph. My love for Karnataka, Andhra and Kerala is true. Nobody will suspect it except for those with an agenda.”

On ban threats from KFCC, Mr. Haasan stated, “I have been threatened before. If I am wrong, I will apologise. If not, I won’t. That’ my lifestyle. Please don’t tamper with it.” 

Talking on his first assembly with Mr. Stalin after DMK’s allotment of 1 seat to MNM for the upcoming Rajya Sabha election, Mr. Haasan stated he was requested to make preparations for his entry into Rajya Sabha.

“I was advised by those with prior experience in Rajya Sabha. I have always been speaking for Tamil Nadu. I will be speaking for Tamil Nadu in Rajya Sabha for the first time,” he stated. 

When requested why he was now supporting the DMK after being severely important of them prior to now, Mr. Haasan stated, “This is needed for the country.”
